In 2005 the Otago Museum lauched a tool called Scicards. The idea was to try any get kids aged between 8 and 12 interested in science.
Scicards were a series of funky collectable cards printed with a link to a virtual version of itself on the internet.
When activated, the pictures on the cards sprung to life and the kids were then able to access an interative science based environment.
The Scicard project resulted in over 180,000 cards being collected and redistributed by New Zealand children.
